1. When do fresh peanuts arrive?
Nongsaro puts the peanut harvest at 100–110 days after flowering, late September to early October. Fresh peanuts for boiling are dug in that window and shipped without drying, so they are most plentiful from late September through October. Peanuts kept for later are dried to about 8% pod moisture (Nongsaro) or 10% or below (Jeju ARES) and stored in the shell.

Online on Coupang, October 10 (before coupons): domestic in-shell peanuts at KRW 11,900 (1 kg, Yecheon 2026 crop), 12,900 (1 kg), 19,900 (2 kg) and 22,710 (2 kg); shelled raw peanuts at KRW 16,700, 17,250 and 22,720 per kilogram. In-shell prices include shell weight, so you get fewer kernels per kilogram, but only in-shell peanuts work for boiling.
3. How long to boil
We found no official RDA, Nongsaro or MFDS boiling time. The common recipe method is to scrub in-shell peanuts, add them to salted boiling water and cook 15–20 minutes after it returns to a boil, then crack one open to check. Older, drier peanuts take longer. Before cooking, remove cracked or moldy pods: MFDS advises not eating food with any suspected mold, since toxins can spread through the food and ordinary cooking does not fully destroy them.
4. Storage and aflatoxin
Korea’s Food Code limits total aflatoxin (B1, B2, G1, G2) in plant raw materials to 15.0 µg/kg, with B1 at 10.0 µg/kg. In September 2026 a batch of domestic roasted peanuts was recalled for exceeding the limit. MFDS advises storing grains and nuts at 10–15°C and 60% humidity or less, keeping shelled foods like peanuts in the shell, dividing and sealing opened packs, and avoiding bulk buying. Fresh peanuts are undried, so buy 1–2 kg at a time and boil or freeze what you cannot eat soon.
5. Sell fresh or dried?
Fresh in-shell peanuts mean quick cash with no drying loss but a short selling window. Dried peanuts (8–10% moisture) take time and space but can be sold into winter. Shelled small packs earn the highest price per kilogram but need shelling time. Wholesale consignment fees for peanuts are capped at 2%.
Seoul’s monthly average fell from October to November in 2024 (KRW 553,000 to 405,524, down 27%) and 2025 (541,722 to 518,600, down 4%), and was flat in 2022 and 2023. Selling part of the dried crop in October reduces risk.
